Over A Month

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,  does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

We’ve been under one roof for almost two months. Days are fading into weeks but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the reality that a multi-generational family can survive and thrive when we all work together with one goal: to LOVE.

In less than a month we have laid a foundation for a closer relationship, laid an actual concrete pad for a shed, raked tons of leaves, planted seeds, put up a tire swing that daily delivers giggles and new ideas of how the children might endanger their lives, as well as incidents of learning to adjust to a dog that is not used to having people his height follow him around and get in his face.

We’ve made memories, had a Batman birthday party for Preston who turned six, repaired Patience’s glasses, found a skateboard park they can ride their scooters and bike at and I finally have a garden buddy who loves my chickens almost as much as I do.  The boy can’t move out, ever!  He motivates, reminds and challenges me to finish what I say I’m doing.  I love that boy.  And he’s made it VERY CLEAR he loves his Papa in NY.  I love that he has such great memories and his reiterating them only deepens them for him.  Moving at five is tough, but this kid is resilient!  His daily stories about all the things his papa and Gramma in NY did with him is so very healthy and I love hearing them!  If only they’d move here too!

We’ve watched movies together on our bed, had bedtime cuddles and shared highlights with great-Gpa at dinner almost nightly.

It’s been a fantastic opportunity to build entrepreneurship in the kids!  I’m teaching Patience sewing, Trinity to crochet, and hoping to transfer my love of photography to Hailey.  It’s been so fun to plant seeds with them.  And now they’re ready to transfer them to larger pots.

Last weekend we went to the Home Depot and did their first woodworking class:  A valentine wood project, for lack of a better word.

Needless to say, it’s been a full month and things are gearing up for some fun events in March and April.  The girls are working on making bracelets and necklaces to sell and I’m teaching a class on urban farming!  Much to get ready for!

Until next time,

the Happy Gramma
