It’s Already December

Do I wait even one more day before I finally sit down and post?  I haven’t written since September and Christmas is less than three weeks away.  Crazy.  So often I’ve thought, “What do I have to share?  Why would anyone listen to what I have to say?  What could I possibly share that is worth anyone’s time?  Yep, I know it’s silly, but that was my thought! I got sick twice and that really threw me off kilter.  But when the burn to write gets to one’s fingertips, it’s time to pound away.

So what was I doing when I wasn’t collapsed in bed? Well, I was cleaning, painting, creating, thrift shopping, perusing Craigslist on a daily basis to find three rooms full of furniture, lots and lots of trips to Home Depot to buy so many things and stalking Pinterest.

As some of you may know, we are opening our home to STRANGERS–people we’ve never met–as AirBnB hosts!  Staging one’s home as well as fixing all things broken has really been a labor of love these past three months.

But that’s not what we were going to do…

Since becoming ’empty-nesters’ over a year ago, we’d thrown around the idea of selling and FINALLY moving to the country where we (I) could have my little farm~!  We discussed, prayed about and made choices that meant moving far away from our son and his wife and our four grandbabies who are right around the corner.  It got to the point that someone offered to buy our home even before we put it on the market.  The day the gentleman was to come and check it out, it rained and because he is wheel-chair bound, he sent a friend–a home inspector.  Now, that was ONLY slightly intimidating, but I am so very grateful he came that day and shared the things we need to update before we finally do sell.

As we stood in our yard discussing the fence/wall that needs work, he looked at me, cleared his throat, and said, “I just have some questions.  Why do you want to sell your home?  You have a little piece of heaven here and you’ve worked so hard on the pond, your yard is huge and there’s such potential! Do you really want to start all over again?”  Wow!  That really got me thinking.

That was the confirmation I needed to stay put.  Now, if you know me, you know how I long to be in the woods, smell country air, get away from sirens, barking dogs that chime in with those sirens, and all the crazy traffic.  BUT I also don’t want to be away from my grandchildren, my neighbors that love us and our sons who are only three minutes away.

So, after more talking, Love and I both agreed that an AirBnB would be one way I could stay home, be available to help my daughter-in-law, serve guests, do my photography and make money!  The greatest benefit of opening our home, I believe, is being able to share the love of Jesus in a very tangible way.

We are hoping to open this week sometime, so I need to get moving.

Until next time…
