It’s The Little Things In Life

The sun rises softly, yet brilliantly and becomes a blazing ball of fire that makes even the strong sluggish and weary. It was a very hot August and this month isn’t showing any signs of letting up.  But while it is still low in the sky, I take my camera out and capture its beauty.

This will be a short post with no real direction.  I just wanted to journal about what’s been going on in my life lately.

Every morning, after I set the chickens free from their ‘coop/greenhouse’ and fill their watering containers and pool, I head to my garden.  It’s the place I can talk out loud and no one hears me. My sacred place of aloneness with Jesus, bees, butterflies and little bunnies.  The chicks are still small enough to squeeze through the chicken fence and follow me in.  I love their company and they’ve never laughed or fussed at me for tripping over cardboard laying on the ground and catching myself before I step on them.

It’s been way past time to pull some plants and today was the watermelon, beans, and cantaloupe.  It’s so hard for me to pull anything.  I feel like I’m giving up on them!  Maybe that’s a good trait to have.  I know it helps with people!  If I pull the plants that aren’t producing, that makes room for new plants.  There’s still time to plant things like more cucumbers, spinach, kale, squash and other veges.  Living in South Texas has so many perks!  My favorite time of year is coming up when everyone up north is dressing in layers, yet we can still wear shorts in December!

We celebrated my father-in-law’s ninety-first birthday on Monday evening.  He was tickled, though this year it was a much smaller crowd.  Last year was a monumental birthday since he wasn’t supposed to live through the summer.  Yet, he did. We invited his SALT friends to the hospice home he was in and he was so surprised.  This year it was an intimate gathering with grandchildren, great grands and his favorite great great grandson, Leo, who was the icing on the cake to him.  He LOVES that little boy.  He told me the next day that Leo was his favorite part because Leo ‘IS THE PARTY’!

Sometimes it’s good to think about the daily routine and the simple pleasures that make life the gift it is.

Until next time…

Would love your input!
